31JAN09. PUMA Ocean Racing's broken boom in the shed in Qingdao. The boom broke during the upwind Leg 4 from Singapore to Qingdao, in winds of up to 50 knots, whilst under 3 reefs and storm jib. The loads on the boom, with this sail configuration coupled with the weather conditions, are huge.
